I have read "We were Soldiers Once and Young", by Lt Gen. Hal Moore.

I was also once a platoon leader of a rifle platoon in combat in the 1st Cavelry Division, although it was in another war. So, I can appreciate the heroism of the individual soldiers and officers whose story is told by Hal Moore in this book.

Late in the book, Gen Moore says that he hopes that future wars will be un-necesary.

Sorry, sir, but this war was un-necessary and illustrates vividly how futile it was. A look at the post war scene illustrates how futile (and un-necessary) all wars are!!!
